Has anyone heard from or talked to Mercyful Fate? I haven't seen or
heard from in a while.
I have tried emailing him but I'm not sure if he still checks that email address.
Last I heard of him was on IRC if I recall correctly. But it's been a while...

He posts updates (and chats) in #oblivion2xrm on the ArakNet Discord server here and there. Last message I see from him was on 10/2.

Was going to say this - also, Netsurge, get on araknet discord for chrissakes.
Bah, you kids and your fancy new technology what is this spider net discord thing you speak of.
Smack him around for me if you see him and tell him I'm trying to get a hold of him.
I've been using Discord a lot over the past eight months or so and have really come to like it (possibly more than IRC at this point). Really
great set of features, fun to write bots for, decent mobile app.
I'm on a couple of different BBS-related "servers" but both are pretty dead.
Anyway, check it out - you might like it.
I think it's time you discover the joys of Discord, my friend. I've
used it for several years now (though mostly for gaming - a lot less
for BBS scene stuff) and like it quite a lot.

Clearly my joke was a bad joke gone wrong. I know what Discord is, lol.
I'm part of a few Commodore hardware servers that I participate in. As for BBS based ones, what do you recommend?
I figured you knew what it was, but wasn't sure that you used it. I
recall awhile back you said that you basically only ever use Zulip and SMS, and werepretty much done with IRC etc.

Last time I used it I thought it was bloated crap.
It is one of those all-in-one solutions that tries to do everything at
the expense of your computing resources.
And you are required to register with Discord even if you want to use a third party server, if I recall.
Just posting because I don't want unanimity regarding the wonderful heavenly qualities of any bloatware.

Hmm. It's honestly one piece of software that I've never regarded as bloated. In fact, when I first started using it years ago I marveled at how well it seemed to run and how stable it was compared to some of its competition I'd used heavily years earlier (old stuff like TeamSpeak and Ventrilo, mostly.) Sure, it can do a lot of things, but they're all tied to a particular purpose - it's not like they're throwing in tons of features that are unrelated to the app's core function, or at least not
to my knowledge.
I acknowledge web browsers definitely are bloatware these days, but there'sno getting by without them, so...

Lynx with ssl support, lol.

I was reading about browsh in a Linux Magazine special yesterday. It isSounds like a great BBS door.
