    Question

I see Usurper takes a long, long time to load with dosemu with Mystic or SBBS
    Any fast fix for this

With Global War the ansi screen draw is very slow also, hoping for a fix for
    that also.

Another thing how many of you running a linix flavor have changed over to
using DOS 6.22 and dosemu for file sharing and memory management?

    Thanks...

Yes, sort of. Usurper runs its daily maintenance routines the first time the game is run in a day. These routines are processor heavy and take a while to run. Setup a nightly maint batch file to run the maintenance (as well as any other dosemu door games maint) for usurper around midnight or so. This way
when a user decides to play, it should load a lot quicker.

Don't know about this one, I don't think I am running it, but I will look at it.

I have installed MS-DOS in dosemu, primarily to see if I could find a fix to the DPMI issue people where having. I really don't see any advantages to using MS-DOS over FreeDOS. File sharing and memory access and management run just fine in FreeDOS.

    Hello Netsurge

I do run two games, Classic & New in nightly Maintenance but I bet with win32
it is about 5 to 8 seconds from the time you tap a key to the time you see
    any ansi at all.

Now on DOSEMU I bet 1 1/2 to two mins.

I would really like to find someone that runs DOS 6.22 and a memory manager
like QEMM and see how they do?

    Just a thought...

Let me flip to MSDOS and see what the timing is like.

As a fan of Usurper, I suggest using BBS Link for it. Using BBS Link with Mystic is very painless, and probably not bad with other BBS softwares either.

It sucks not being able to change the sysop-controlled game settings, but
they have it set up pretty decently with the latest version.

Since they have so many players (like 4 people - that actually is a lot!) I think each player shares the burden of occasionally being the first player of the day & having to wait for all ridiculously slow maintenance.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

But I still want to see if DOS plays better then FreeDOS or one of the others.

    Thanks...

How does one get set up with that?

How does one get set up with that?

    Go to this url:

    https://www.bbslink.net

    Click "For SysOps"

then click "Ready? Sign up here."

Fill out the form, then after they accept you, they will give you
instructions. For Mystic BBS, it's real easy to load the game from a menu. Do you use Mystic? Or something else? It's probably easy for most softwares -
    just follow their directions.

If you use Mystic on Linux it's like this from a menu for Usurper:

    (DD) Exec external program
    python /mystic/themes/default/scripts/bbslink.py usrp %#

No need for chain.txt or door32.sys, it keeps track of your users just like that.
