Hi, all.

This message reaches you courtesy of (and as a test for) a terminal emulator I have written in ARM assembler for my favourite retro computer, the Acorn A3020. There are still a few more features to add but so far, so good... Eventually the code will make it onto GitHub but for now I'm just super stoked to have a pixel perfect VGA font doing CP437 with "correct" colours, three new things for me on this system :)

That's awesome, sounds like a great terminal emulator. The quotes around "correct" colours makes me hope you're not colour blind. ;)

Actually the fully assembler-ified code ends up waiting for the bytes to come in :) :) :)

The quotes around "correct" colours makes me hope you're not colour

Thankfully colour recognition is one part of me that still works. I say "correct" because a) the terminal emulator I have until now been using on the Arc uses different colours, and particularly can't do intensity so Bubble Boggle is unplayable, b) the determination that IBM VGA colours are the right choice is a little arbitrary, and c) The palette on the A3020 is only granular to (I think) 4 bits per colour so the colours are very close to the VGA spec but not necessarily perfect in places.

... what about Zmodem? :)

Features in front of Zmodem in the queue include arrow keys, the ability to exit and a flashing cursor...

Amusingly I hated Beebs in school and never got near an Arc, it's only the last two years I'm really experiencing them for the first time.

It is, indeed, an Archimedes. The A3010 is the one with the green function keys, the A3020 has orange / red function keys like its BBC predecessor. Basically they are the same computer with minor tailoring:

A3010 - aimed at home use, has joystick ports
A3020 - aimed at education, no joystick ports but on-board IDE (thank goodness, this is a huge quality of life boost)

Both "wedge" form factor :)

The A3010 & A3020 both have a floppy drive built in, sadly both required an add on board for networking. Plus the networking would likely have been Econet rather than Ethernet...

Yes Sir! When I resurrected my bbs, I used the old handle that I had and discovered the capitol Ogg and just changed mine to lowercase.

Great work you're doing building this terminal from the ground up! I hadn't considered having to implement a flashing cursor too.
