The 70's was a great time to be there for sure. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin.. :)

The 80's a 90's also although the reasons are different.

Oh I do, for sure.
I don't think many of us then knew how lucky we were to live in that era.
Oh sure there were problems (always have been, always will be) but life
was better.
People not tied to some electronic device all the time, no social media,
no PC madness, the future was not doom and gloom, people didn't take offense
at the least little thing...

Not to mention the cars. Until about 15 years ago I drove a '65 Chevy
Stepside, then a 76 Camaro and finally a 72 Duster. Loved every one of them.

I do so much driving for work now that driving a classic just isn't doable.
Had to get the next best thing, a Challenger. Current one is a 2012 with
about 210k miles on it. Hoping it'll go another 200 at least.

I think the last time I played physical a board game was Trivia Pursuit.
I still have it on a shelf in storage.
After a while I was pretty much banned from playing since I have a head
full of trivia. :)
I have a copy of Monopoly I play against the computer from time to time,
but the PC cheats. Gets all the good rolls, etc.

Don't even get me started on those!
When I was in parking I had a regular, a nice guy, and one day I was on a smallish public lot and he was running around in those. I asked him what
was wrong with him and said "pull up your pants!" People turned to look at
me, how could be I say something
Another time I was in the golf cart and we were not allowed to go around pedestrians, so had to putt-putt behind them.
This one guy had his behind hanging out and I thought "Pull up your pants
for Pete's sake". He turned and glanced at me and pulled them up. I
thought "I didn't know my thoughts were that loud". :)

In the mid-70s I sold cars.
Started out detailing used cars at a L-M dealership, then sold Honda-Fiat-Subaru-Volvo's at a small place.
Then in 1977 I moved to a Ford dealership. That was the best, since had

An array of cars, pick one out to drive for a day or so, then get another one. It was car heaven. :)
I really enjoyed selling used over new cars.
A new car buyer wanting a different colour, options, etc than what we
had, then tracking one down and switching with that dealer miles away if not factory ordered.
A used car? There is is, take it or leave it.
Besides, I made more on used rather than new ones.

Last summer I restored a 1969 VW Beetle - basically everything other than painting the car. It was a lot of fun, super easy to work on...the motor was like 200lb and I was able to use a skateboard as an engine stand.

Now I have a 1967 GTO but I'm going the opposite direction from what you mention. I'm actually converting it to use a modern motor, trans, etc., but
to keep the same old "shell" of an old muscle car. It's fun for its own
reasons but man, what a money pit.

I inherited a 1970 Chrysler Newport sedan from my mother in 1983.
At the time there was a mixture you could buy for older cars that used
leaded gas. It did a fairly good job. Just add a can at every fill up.
I gave it away in 1987 (no cars since then).
A great road car but in town not so much. And I couldn't pass a gas
station without fighting the wheel with it wanting to pull up to a pump.

The best car I ever had was a '65 Falcon. Everything was right there
when the hood was opened and lots of open space.
Today you nearly have to pull the engine to change a belt.
And so many of today's cars when they are in even a fender bender
literally fall apart from all the plastic.

On Wheeler Dealers, they mentioned that the lead in the gas helps cushion
the valve seats and if they had the head open on the engine, would replace
the valves with a more unleaded-friendly valve.

There was a Unocal station in Redwood City, CA, near the border to Woodside, an expensive suburb in the San Francisco bay area. They had one pump that pumped 105 octane racing fuel, and it would be fun to see the Lamborghini, Cobra, Vector, Ferrari and even a Konigsegg or Mclaren filling up.

No, though I do dig some of those conversions. I built a new LS motor,
ordered a block from GM and took it from there. It's an LS6 383 stroker,
forged bottom end, 102mm intake, cammed. Fun :) So it's quite a bit lighter than the 400 and it's got ridiculous flowing heads. It also sounds great.

The trans is a Tremec T56 I had assembled brand new as well.

- $500 block brand new from GM. Couldn't turn it down.

I also made a decision to build from scratch instead of doing a junkyard
pull. I figured if I was going to put forth all this effort to build a car,
may as well pick every part intentionally from the get-go.

I quite like the aesthetics of the 70s. Perhaps because I grew up in a house which had a lot of older stuff, and people still dressing in that style
in the early 80s.

Interesting, there is no real distinct look or aesthetic today. Houses are minimalist white and dress sense doesn't appear to be all that stylistic.

So is Nick Mason. His band, IIRC, is named after Floyd's second album, A Saucerful of Secrets. Until the pandemic, they were touring. I have heard they are pretty good, but that is from biased sources (i.e. big Floyd fans).

For that matter...much of the stuff after the British Invasion of the States to around 1970 from outside the US is spectacular.

Don't get me wrong...if it wasn't for the later stuff from these bands...I would've never gotten into commercial broadcasting & fell in love with this music from this period.

he'd gotten himself straightened out?

Sid never actually left the band, but his sitiation changed largely.

I saw a netflix (I think) show around the wish you were here album that talks about the time sid showed up at abbey road studio while they were recording for
the album. An amazing album.

That was supposedly during the Wish You Were Here sessions. I have seen,
or read, interviews with David Gilmour where he says that no one originally realized it was even Sid because he was so unrecognizable. When they did realize, it was pretty upsetting to them to see what had become of him.

I've seen some of their footage & what I heard was from Echoes & before. Did a great version of Arnold Layne.

I am pretty sure I have read interviews with Nick where he says their
earlier stuff is his favorite, so I am not surprised. Honestly, starting
with "Wish You Were Here" and going backwards is where most all of my
favorite stuff is because there was more colaboration and you could hear it.

Very true. Wasn't like with the Stone's 5 or so years earlier with Brian
Jones. Was reading recently that the rest of the band was waiting for Sid to get himself straightened out...but some of the business types around the band suspected this wasn't going to happen.

We read the same thing about this. Remember going to a funeral at a Mennonite church I was going to at the time. They played almost all of the band's stuff for the service. That left a mark with me!

One of the songs playing at my memorial service down the road is going to be some Gerry Rafferty tunes. Baker Street is my all time favorite. Realized the other day at work...it's almost biographical for both of us. Even more sad
than with Sid is to hear Rafferty's daughter/himself talk about what it was like for him growing up...then drinking all that talent to your death. I
cried the day I heard he died & the cause of it.
