Based on what I've read it's going to take for the NHL to try to finish the season, I have to wonder if it's really worth it at this point. I would hate to see the Stanley Cup not awarded this year, but I also don't know how much sense it makes to try to get it done and how much you're going to get into the whole "*" attached to it for the winner.

Well, they're not really going to try and finish the (regular)
season. When play resumes it'll be a modified playoff format with
24 teams eligible, and proceed until the Stanley Cup is awarded.

Yeah, there may be an asterisk on the winner's name, but I still
hope it's my team. It's not like they "cheated" or did anything
wrong, it was just a shortened season.

I meant finish anything this year, but I understand what you're saying. The further along things move the more and more confusing it is all looking. Now some teams have multiple players testing positive who can't be back at practice, etc. I just don't see how the logistics of the whole thing are going to work out. With the way the different situations keep evolving, it seems like it is going to be very difficult to get a system and set of rules established and then not have to make changes as things move along.

Thinking about it more, maybe being able to win with everything going on would be more difficult than just a "regular" season, who knows.

    Who's your team, btw?

Yeah, sure is a difficult situation. I agree that the ongoing
changes may actually make it impossible to do at all.

Good point. Very stressful for players and families both.

changes may actually make it impossible to do at all.

I think that may be one of the biggest problems that they are trying to solve. If you get things started and then, for any reason, something changes where there is either just no way to finish or no way to finish in a way that is "fair" for all the teams, what do you do then?

I'm glad I don't have to sort it out.

Have you read about the FoxSports (I believe it is) contract for next season if this season ends now? Several teams are going to take a big financial hit next year if this season isn't finished. My understanding is that if they don't finish this season then those teams who partner with FoxSports will take a hit on the TV revenue next season. I don't remember if it was all of it or just a pro-rated amount. I need to get back over to Kuklas Korner and try to find that article again. It was the only place I spotted it so far, but I don't get a lot of hockey coverage so it's possible it has been other places and I just missed it.

Yeah, that's a rabbit hole full of quicksand just waiting to
happen. Probably even some lawsuits down in that hole.

Haven't heard of that issue, but it doesn't surprise me. Business
deals between pro sports teams and television are very serious
business, and quite complicated. Another mess for sure.

If you're looking for more hockey news via BBS, I provide a feed
to the FidoNet NHL Hockey echo, with about 8 decent stories per
day that you could check out.

I just saw some news that Austin Matthews has been diagnosed with it. If that's the case I can't imagine that the Leafs are going to want to move forward. I agree that the potential for lawsuits is going to be really high depending on how things go.

I only saw one mention of it and that was a tweet sent out from a reporter who covers the NHL. I need to do some research and see what else I can find out about it. I seem to think it said that teams with a Fox Sports contract would receive no revenue next year if the season ends this year as is. If that's the case it could be a real disaster for a lot of teams.

I follow that echo on another BBS. Thank you so much for getting that up and running again! I remember reading all of them when the prior maintainer was posting them and then they had to stop. I was so happy to see the posts return and was just reading them a few minutes ago.

I've been a little tuned-out and busy with other things while they
get the season stuff figured out. Will be following closely once
(if?) they get things fired up again.

Lol!! I feel that way about a lot of the little projects I work on. I spend a lot of time on something and then sit back and think "Does anyone else see this? Does anyone else use this? Does anyone else even know it exists!?!?" ;)

Wow! A post from TM that is pretty much *normal*. Yay!

I'm very happy about your first statement, and agree with your second
one! My prediction is that the Kraken will not do very well, and that
won't be unexpected. Their draft choices would seem to indicate that
they are building for the future, and perhaps in 3-4 years will be in
the thick of things. Probably a smart approach.

    Go Bruins!

If they have an organization like Vegas they should do pretty good. Vegas
